Biography
Aubyn Armstrong is a multifaceted artist, wearing the hats of a teacher, choreographer and dance film director based in San Antonio, Texas as well as Los Angeles, California. Her remarkable journey in the world of dance commenced in 2001, training in a wide array of styles including ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop, jazz funk, tap, musical theater, and contemporary forms.
Her passion for dance and teaching blossomed during her formative years at Trilogy Dance Center and Insight Dance Ensemble. By the age of 15, Aubyn had delved into the realm of choreography, crafting captivating routines for both pre-professional and professional dancers. Various Texas festivals, summits and showcases have featured Aubyn’s choreographic work. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to further her artistic career as a choreographer. Aubyn had the pleasure of working closely with leading contemporary choreographers such as Erica Sobol, Adi Salant, Tilman O’Donnell, David Harvey, Medhi Walerski, Cat Cogliandro, Jermaine Spivey, and Spencer Theburge. Aubyn focused her energies on expanding her repertoire and translating her skills into the realm of dance on film. Her dance film creations graced prestigious film festivals along the West Coast, earning her recognition and acclaim.
In 2021, Aubyn returned to her roots in San Antonio to teach and choreograph for the esteemed pre-professional company, Insight Dance Ensemble. She continues to travel and work on music videos and shows for musicians based in Los Angeles. Noteworthy among her recent projects is the choreography showcased in Jesca Hoop’s “Sudden Light” and “Hatred Has A Mother” music videos, as well as the live performance choreography for the up-and-coming pop band, Cosmo Gold. Aubyn is also working on staff for a new non-profit HAD, under the direction of Ronda Runnels. She is so excited to be working for HAD and to help provide dancers with new opportunities.
In 2023, Aubyn embarked on a new chapter in her career, founding Coalesce, a pre-professional dance film company. With a mission to empower young dancers aged 13-18, Coalesce provides a unique opportunity to learn the art of dance specifically tailored for film. Aubyn’s vision is not just limited to teaching; she aims to aid these aspiring dancers in developing materials for their own dance reels, fostering their growth as artists.
Aubyn’s creative journey is propelled by her unwavering passion to challenge and expand the cultural boundaries of dance. Her unique and powerful voice resonates through every choreographic creation, be it in the form of dance films or live performances.
